Discuss Michael Saltar's answer to: Who was the Father of Italy?

As for the nation of Italy existing today, it was Victor Emmanuel II to whom is dedicated one of the largest monuments in Rome. He was the first king of unified Italy--the country itself--when he united the country in 1861.
