I saw this inequality problem at a web site

2x2<32

x2<16

but answer shows x<4

but why not x<-4

The answer to x^2 < 16 cannot be x < -4 because for example x = -5 gives x^2 = 25.  The solution x < 4 is OK for positive x, but x = -5 would still be a problem.  The correct answer is |x| < 4, or -4 < x < 4.
