I was one year old at the time, born that July into a set of triplets, my wide eyes looking out at the world in the way only a newborn's can. It was December now, my first New Years approaching fast, bringing with it new colors and sounds.My parents were sitting on the boardwalk, my sisters and I in a stroller looking out at the St.Johns river, which snaked though our Floridian town, it's calm waters occasionally disturbed by a passing boat. It was night, and the cold air smelled of salt, the cry of a gull somewhere in the dark broke the silence every now again. I fiddled around in my stroller, as babies do, when I felt something cold on my cheek. I tried to reach it with my stubby arms, but couldn't.  My mother noticed my distress, she reached down, and plucked a snowflake of my cheek. I looked up at it, the lights around us making it appear to glow. I reached for it wanting to hold it, My mother gently handed it to me, I watched it melt in my hand. I looked all around for it, wondering where it had gone, but I couldn't find it. I started to cry, my parents laughed at my confusion, thinking how silly it was. Snow started to fall around us, I grabbed at them and watched as they melted away for a while, until Mom and Dad took us home. That was my first and last snow, that was in 1989, it hasn't snowed here in twenty years.
