Wow! I remember that movie. If it's what I'm thinking of it's "The Gate". The little creatures come out of a hole where a tree used to be in their backyard. I also remember a part where there was an eyeball on the boys hand and he stabbed it and he fired a rocket he got for his birthday. Hope this helps!
