My puppie a yorkie is 10 weeks today. She eats only a few very small bites of pedigre puppy food at a time maybe three times a day. Is this enough? She really likes liver treats and will eat them as often as we will give them. Worried she not eating enough.

Thank you.

Sounds like you're giving your puppy plenty to eat, and don't need to worry. As long as you're feeding your puppy the recommended amount as listed on the packet of food (and preferably premium food) you're OK. You don't want your dog to be overweight, it is not healthy for her (or for us, for that matter Laughing).

Don't be alarmed if your dog eats everything you give her, puppies have no natural inhibition to the amount they eat.

"The time has come" the walrus said "to speak of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax. Of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot and whether pigs have wings."

I would try mixing the liver snacks in with her food.

Hopefully you took the puppy to a vet when you got her. Go by what the vet told you. The best thing is to look at how she acts and how her coat looks. If she is frisky and had a good coat, you are on the right track. I don't know her size but you can get a little postage scale and keep a record of her weight. Just make sure that she has plenty of water available all day. Ten weeks is really young so she should be on a young puppy food. I have even given baby formula to young pups because it has so much nutrition in it. Good luck!

Yes, smaller more frequent meals are better for small dogs.  I feed my dogs only Canidae brand dog food.  The only dog food I ever smelled that doesn't smell icky.

The world wants to be deceived.

Puppies really are just like little children, and just like human babies - some puppies are just picky eaters. This can be especially true of the small and toy breeds.

Again, as with babies, it's best not to pander to a picky eater. It's your responsibility to offer a good, nutritious diet - it's your puppy's responsibility to eat what you give her! Of course, you worry that she's getting enough, but nature won't allow an animal to starve itself, so you can relax a little. She may not eat as much as you would like, but that's okay for now.

There's quite often an adjustment period after a puppy comes into it's new home. Loss of appetite, being extra sleepy, or even tummy upsets can be a result of anxiety and homesickness. This usually only lasts a few days to a week or so.

Small breed puppies and dogs can have problems regulating their blood sugar levels, and being weak or 'wobbly' can be a result of low blood sugar. If you ever notice this in your pup you can give her a little Karo syrup in her water, or rub it on her gums. Try to feed her little and often, as her metabolism is fast due to her size. Of course, bear in mind that she is a tiny pup, and has a tiny tummy too. She really doesn't have room for much food.

I would recommend that you don't give her many treats between meals, one or two regular sized liver treats will most definitely take the edge off her appetite. I would hold back on these until she is eating more at mealtimes.

I would stop giving your pup the liver treats as the last thing you want is a fussy puppy. just give her the recomended food and she will eat it when shes hungry.
