I have an appointment next Friday to stop smoking yet AGAIN ! Stopping isn't a huge problem but the extra weight i pile on is. May sound vain to many but it stressing me out just thinking about it. Ive tried the gym and dieting and the weight just keep coming ..... has any one got any suggestions? I really want to stop smoking, i wish I had never picked one up but the thought of gaining weight is making me panic already. I fight constantly with my weight, always have ! Any advise would be great.

Many would and do say ...So what u put on a few pounds but your health is more important ..... I know and understand this but mentally I just cant cope with it

To stop smoking is not difficult. But this should be done in a gradual manner. From daily, you can make it into two or three times a day. Then, you can use candy as substitute. Time will come that you already stop using it.

Lisa, you're right... you don't want to trade one problem for another.

Skipping meals won't help.  It simply does throw off your metabolism.  When you don't eat, your body shuts down to conserve fat stores.  You have to trick your body into feeling full and you need to eat 3 healthy meals per day...don't skip breakfast!  Rotate breakfast by having bacon, eggs, half a grapefruit one day and oatmeal the next.  The first is high in protein and the second is high in fiber.

Lower your carbs... (no breads, starches, sugars) and increase your proteins, (meats, eggs).  Also eat salad with your protein lunch and dinner to help fill up and for the fiber.  For snacks eat celery sticks, carrot sticks, and other fresh vegatables and fresh fruits but keep the fruit portions small.  Last but also very important, drink 8 glasses of water per day.

I have tried that too lol I don't have a problem with over eating .... my body just seems to change its metabolism rate  :(  may be not eating properly  ie skipping meals ect wont  help thanks for the suggestion though :) 

Lisa, this is kind of out there but have you considered hypnotherapy in conjunction with your smoking cessation program?

The hypnotherapist might be able to successfully guide you in such a way that you don't find yourself overeating to compensate for the loss of your smoking habit.

I don't know if it would work, but it might be worth a try. Best of luck to you!
