i have a psychiatric patient who is always banging his head on the wall inflicting self harm to himself.he does this cause he want medication that he is addicted to. if we don't give him he would hurt himself and then we would attend to him giving him all the attention he wants.i don't believe in restraining patients and he has a learning barrier as he is a mental retardation patient..so any solutions

   I think that you should ask her doctor for medication to relieve his agitation, like Haldol etc.

    The management of this patient depends on the hospital policy and the doctor's orders.  It's up to the Nurse to report this event to the doctor.  It's not up to you or up to your discretion.  Get a doctor's order for a PRN medication.
