You wouldn't think so, but the liver produces the chemicals that make the gallstones (they form as the bile is stored in the gallbladder).  Apparently while nearly all patients who have their gallbladder removed are fine, in a few cases the symptoms can return.

Live ,laugh,love,

i am 53 & i had my gallbladder removed 32 years ago. I still mon occasions have the same pain. then i am very tyender in the upper abdomin can you tell me why

I always thought if the gallbladder was removed there wasn't a chance of gallstones forming again. Interesting question though. Anyway you should check out this website on gallbladder symptoms . It's got tons of information, although it may not have the answer to your question.

You can still get gallstones without the gallbladder. The liver still produces the bile salts and sends them down to the duodenum. While the bile salts pass through the various ducts, they can crystalise and form gallstones in those ducts. You can still get gallstones. They can still block the ducts and cause inflammations, gallbladder disease and infections and require more surgery. Remember what gallstones are made of? 80% of them are made of crystalised cholesterol and 20% are of crystalised calcium. These come from excesses of cholesterol and calcium that the liver just dumps down to the gallbladder, which isn't there any more. Reduce the cholesterol your liver produces, and maybe reduce your calcium a bit and you can reduce the incidence of crystalisation. Or go in for regular liver and gallstone flushes .
