She was found not guilty because she killed Betty Gore out of self defense. After she was acquitted, her and her husband fled Collin County.

It's completely ridiculous. Betty Gore was murdered, the crime scene was contaminated since the police force in Wylie weren't prepared for a crime of this magnitude, and there was sufficient evidence to show that Betty Gore was every bit the victim. She didn't even have a weapon on her. The only reason I know this is because a fire marshal that worked on the case came in for a lecture today and we got to see all the gory pictures.

Betty Gore was hit 41 times with an axe and 28 of those hits were to the head. The crime scene photos were all really interesting, but I felt like I was going to lose my lunch when we saw pictures of Betty Gore's hacked body and face. Actually, one of Betty Gore's family members was actually in the classroom. I can't even imagine how she must have felt seeing a family member's mutilated body.
