How to get Guardian to unlock or default my panel

So I own all of my equiptment and contracted (2 years) with Guardian to do the monitoring.  They perfomed a take over of the Ademco 10P system on www.lktown.com and have monitored for the past 5 years.  My neighbor is now a dealer for Smith and Wesson Security and offered me a killer price on monitoring so I canceled my services with Guardian.  Guardian then took the liberty of locking my panel for downloader access only.  I've talked to everyone I can at Guardian and they all flat out refuse to defualt the panel stating that this is thier "common practise".  I know that this practise is not uncommon for some security companies but it is scummy to say the least.  So my options are to send the panel out to have it unlocked or purchase a new one.  
So before I head down one of those roads, I was wondering if anyone on this forum has had any luck convincing Guardian or any other monitoring service to default their panel?  Who should I talk to to get this done?
