As you probably know, in April, 1965, Ford introduced the GT Mustang, which stands for Grand Touring. Since then when a GT Mustang is introduced, it has special features that a regular Mustang does not have. These features vary each year, so I can't give you a specific answer to your question. I do have a link to the 2007 GT as an example.

Don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things.

I have a 1966  convertible with a 289 automatic.And I have a 1966 coupe with a 289 3 speed in the floor. I was wondering what they need to be a GT ? Thank You  Larry

A Ford Mustang GT is a V-8 and a regular Ford Mustang is a V-6.

As a general rule, the GT will have a more powerful engine than the regular mustang, as well as a better standard options package. For example, you could get the standard car with a V6 and pay extra for a few accessories, or you go with the GT, and you get a V8 engine plus various performance, interior, and appearance extras, with a few of them being GT exclusive.
