I have been a horse racing fan for a long time now and was recently interested by the sport of greyhound racing. Are they comparable? Is it anywhere close to being as competitive as horse racing is?
No. It is not exciting. It is cruel and unfair for the dogs. Racing greyhounds spend the majority of their adult lives in crates or pens or in fenced enclosures. Human companionship is limited. Many enclosures are not climate-controlled, causing the dogs distress during inclement weather. Greyhound racing constitutes animal abuse because of the industry's excessive surplus breeding practices, the often cruel methods by which unwanted dogs are destroyed, the daily conditions in which many dogs are forced to live, and the killing and maiming of bait animals, such as rabbits, during training exercises. The industry exists solely for the entertainment and profit of people—often at the expense of the animals' welfare.
There is no comparison.
Greyhound racing, every time!
When I see two of the babies dueling on the interstate, running well over 150mph, it sends goose bumps up my spine.

It depends upon what you are looking for. If you have always been a fan of horse racing, it is difficult to like any other sport based on racing in the same manner.
Wait, if greyhound racing is cruel then isn't horse racing cruel also? I mean...I guess I don't know if that's a fair comparison. If dogs were the size of horses, would it still be cruel? Anyways....my husband is a huge horse racing fan (he's a TVG member) so I have gotten into it over the years. I prefer it over greyhound racing
