Has our government moved the spent fuel rods from the nations Nuclear Power Plants to an underground site yet, to avoid the same disaster that Japan had to endure ?

The problem could have been avoided if the spent fuel rods, which had been exposed, weren't stored in pools surrounding the reactor. If they had been removed and put underground, as they should have been, workers could have secured the operating reactor and avoided the calamity. We need to get the spent fuel rods that are stored at our reactor facilities into places like Yucca Mountain to prevent the same disaster from occurring here.
