Discuss Dolakh Thapa's answer to: Gokyou trek

Gokyo trek

Everest Gokyo Lake trek may be seen as a worthy, slightly easier and less crowded alternative to the traditional Everest Base Camp Trek. Gokyo valley trekking follows the Everest Base Camp route from Lukla, 35 minutes airstrip from Kathmandu, for the first two days and then branches to Gokyo Lake along the Dudh Kosi to the snout of Nepal’s longest, Ngozumpa glacier  which it follows towards its origin below the tremendous ice ridge that links the peaks of Cho Oyo (8201m) and Ghyachung Kang (7922m).

Your destination in Everest Region trekking is the Sherpa Village of Gokyo situated on the slopes of the moraine on the shores of the last of several blue-green lakes nestling between the mountains and moraine. Yak herding and crop production in the short growing season are the chief occupations.

Everest Gokyo trek extends extra thrill by climbing to the Gokyo Ri which offers soaring views of Cho Oyo, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu, et al, as well as a spectacular view of the glacier forging its way down the valley. A walk higher up the valley or over the moraine to view the glacier at first hand could also be considered. It’s a trek those who have shorter holiday and would like to view the world’s highest peaks from comfortable elevation. Gokyo Lake Trek is relatively less touristy and easier than other treks in Khumbu Region.Spring and Autumn are the best seasons to trek, though Mountain Mart Trek make it happen comfortably four season.
