How is crochet different to normal sewing?

Sewing is done either by hand using a needle and thread or on a sewing machine. It usually connects 2 pieces of material together to make a seam or a hem.

Crocheting is done with either a thick cotton more like a string, rafia, wool or other similar fibre. A stick with a hook on the end is used to weave and twist the fibre around itself to make a pattern or chain. Crocheting is closer to knitting than sewing is.

Both can be done to make items such as clothing, bags, blankets, etc.

Crochet and sewing are very different from one another. Crochet uses a hook while sewing uses a needle and/or a sewing machine. Crochet uses yarn while sewing uses thread.
