It doesn't burst, it blocks the passage of the bile which will backup.  There is more information here at www.mcvitamins.com/gallbladder.htm

Gall stones are usually "pebbles" inside a person's gall bladder. The gall bladder is a pocket situated beneath a liver which generally saves bile released through the liver. During meals (in particular these featuring fats or peptids), your gallbladder may develop contraction, delivering bile by way of bile tubes in to the intestinal tract to assist food digestion. Irregular arrangement of bile leads to creation of gall stones. Gallstone disorder is often a common reason for belly ache, swelling, along with infections in the gall bladder as well as the pancreas.
