Funeral dilema

I need to travel a long distance to pay my respects to the parent of a friend who has just passed.  I am unable to attend both; the viewing is one day, the memorial the next. Is attending one over the other more significant or personal to the family of the deceased?

It can depend on how closely you knew the deceased.  If you were very close, you might want to attend the memorial, which tends to be more personal.  On the other hand, if you are closer to the survivors than the deceased, they might appreciate your support at the viewing.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.
