I heard an expert say, on the scale that they use to rate nuclear disasters, Japan's situation is a "6".  Chernobyl was a "7".

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

as far as we are concerned, the wind that blows eastward from japan has always been so strong that ,in world war II,the japanese could release hot-air balloons that made it to california, maybe even further.it's not rocket science to know that fallout occurs all along the path of the cloud arising from a nuclear incident, until it has all fallen to the earth.the tv talking head experts are giving you the politically correct scenario,as always.their mantra states that ,if it doesn't kill you today, it must not be as bad as some alarmists say it is.

Pretty much nothing. It was thoroughly looted after the disaster, and has since become a "ghost town", cordoned off by security checkpoints.

Better take a Geiger counter with you or rent one there, or at least take a radiation badge. I doubt that the governments will tell you the truth. I recently read a blog on the subject by a Dr. George Thomas at his blog location at http://www.ghthomas.blogspot.com.
