If you have a laptop, you can take it to a place that offers free WiFi, like a public library or a coffee shop.  If you want WiFi at home, you need an Internet Service Provider, which isn't free; and you need a WiFi router, which is not very expensive.  If you have a cooperative neighbor you might be able to use his WiFi network, but most people don't want others on their network and they put a password on it.
