I got a large batch of maple syrup jars this year as a present and I would like to know what is the shelf life of maple syrup and what are the ideal storage conditions for it?

It will easily last a year in a cool, dark place (pantry or basement) preferably not an exterior closet that is subject to temperature flutuations.  You can use maple syrup in place of honey in a lot of recipes, it's especially tasty drizzled on hot toast and then spread on peanut butter.

I wasn't aware of that because I though maple syrup can last longer when stored properly. Maybe I heard that about canned version, who knows?

Hi Theodor,

When well filtered and hot packaged maple syrup can last through years, we, at http://www.maplesyrupworld.com/, recommends that you keep your maple syrup up to 3 years.

To extend the lifetime we would recommend storing the jars in a cool and dark place.

If properly hot-packed and sealed, the syrup should be good for 2-3 years if stored in a cool to cold, dark place. It won't freeze.  It may get a few crystals but can be reheated like honey.  Nice presents.
