I know my dog has fleas how can I make sure I get rid of the fleas and eggs that maybe in the furniture or in the rug?

If you know your dog has fleas, the first thing you want to do is provide him with some relief.  Give him a good flea bath and start him on some flea medication or preventatives like flea collars, sprays, etc.

As far as your furniture and rugs go.  You can use flea sprays or powders on them.  Also, vacuuming the rug and your couch using an attachment will help.  Sprinkle some flea powder in the vacuum bag so that you kill any fleas alive in there.
