Some suggestions:

Start - Control Panel - User Accounts - Create a new Administrator Account. This will bring forward things like Service Pack 2 & 3 that you should already have if using Windows XP and Service Pack one for Windows 7

Always give your Operating System when asking a question. Your Documents and Pictures can be first put on a CD. You have to keep an administrator account on the computer, but after making a new one I have deleted the old administrator account that solved a problem I was working on.
