When melting lead to make sinkers, is it necessary to ensure that no moisture is in the lead?  If so, how do you extract any moisture from it?  I was told that if moisture is in the lead, it will burst when melting.

yes that can and will happen if there is moisture on the lead, however to get the moisture off of the lead heat the lead up somewhere that isnt hot enough to melt it and that will evaporate the water. you should heat it for a couple minutes, i do this with all of my ingots before i melt. if you have a lee melter then you can set the lead on the rim, it is not hot enough to melt it there.
