I want fish my lake but it does not have any ice ...

I want fish my lake but it does not have any ice and the water temp is around 40 degrees,can I still fish it as if it did have ice on it and use them same ice fishing tactics and locations I would if it had ice?

It will be hard to cut a hole in the water.  Why use something different? They don't bite because of the ice. It's the bait.

It shouldn't be too different from normal open water conditions. To be honest those silly fish will eat just about anything. However as the seasons change, so does the available "life forms" that fish eat. In the winter, the bugs and smaller critters that fish eat start to deplete. So -depending on your location- try to use baits that resemble life forms that a fish may bite at for the given season. EXAMPLE - I wouldn't use a cricket or fake cricket in winter conditions- because they aren't around in the winter. It would not surprise me however if they did bite at it. Hell it wouldn't surprise me if you pounded them with fake crickets - again just an example. Fish thrive on different types of Plankton, they are small and hard to see critters that are usually abundant in the water. Ice jigs are usually small and bug shaped to resemble types of plankton, or nymphs of some sort. Again not too different, the tricky part is always finding the fish. If you have fished this lake often enough it shouldn't be too hard to find them.
