How does filmmakers get their ideas for what the movie would be about?
Hi floop122,
Film makers will get their ideas much in the same way as authors and artists get their ideas for their craft-through inspiration. In some cases, this may be from a story in the news, a painting or even a dream-James Cameron famously stated that his idea for the Terminator came about during an illness where he spiked a fever and imagine a man walking through flames. In many cases, film script will be written following the idea for a short film or television experience and vice versa-a good example of this is Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Originally a film which was not to the standard of writer Joss Whedon, he then re-wrote the script to portray the story in a television series mode which followed his vision more closely.
Hope this helps :)
