Sadly these cats once were beloved pets and were fed, watered and cared for. Through generations of abuse they go back to the wild and even if you raise feral kittens most will continue to be wild.
Do not feed them or if your property is abandoned there is not much you can do save from calling Animal Control on them. I have come to understand Animal Control has one of the toughest jobs in our country. As awful as it sounds unwanted animals thrown onto the streets, highways and countrysides are usually doomed to die hard and many times in agony starving to death or being abused or destroyed by wild animals. Animal Control puts them to sleep, thousands upon thousands day in and out in our country and it is better than the above for most of them.
The expense of neutering and spading is way outside most peoples' pocket books and it is not that people are avoiding their responsibilities they just can not afford the procedure. Now some counties have programs that will remove the ferel cats and neuter or spay them then move them to an area that is welcoming to ferel cats.
I am deeply saddened daily by the sad state of animals I see in my area and thusly spend much time and money helping them and getting them fixed. But with the inhumanity people perpetrate on people how can we expect more but just the same for innocent creatures.
