Three years is a long time however he has moved on and regardless of why he would do what he is doing you need to not read anything into it and go on your way also. 

It is difficult to imagine how 3years of your life, time and energy have gone by without good results or a forever but it happens everyday to people everywhere.  Get over it.

Don't allow him to play you.
