The line is taken from a song in the German musical "Happy End" by Kurt Weill, Elizabeth Hauptman and Bertold Brecht.  Its' socialist flavor did not sit well with Berlin audiences in 1929 and it closed after 7 performances.  However, it has seen many revivals over the years, including a Broadway production with Meryl Streep.
