I think a normal family are people who love each other, protect each other and never try to hurt each other.  I think a normal family bond is stronger than any bond you could ever have with anyone else.  And even when things go wrong and feelings may get hurt for whatever reason...love means being able to say I'm sorry because no one is perfect.

Geeeeee's baby, didn't you ever see Leave it to Beaver?.......Laughing

Like that's soooo real....Oh and the Brady Bunch too....Kiss

If it's funny, laugh. If it isn't funny, laugh anyway!

Wowie Maya... Lil ole ??? with big ole answer:)) First normal is not a word I would use for the question I believe you to be asking here... For it is amazing what we as individuals will adapt to as normal... But as far as a healthy functioning family goes... which may I add I've never truly met a perfect family or a fam who follows to the complete T... but I would say... the root of a healthy family is... Communication in a effective way... the abilty to solve problems in or out of the home with with love and acceptance for each other.... family should be a support to building individuality and helping to build self esteem... and respect for others feelings.. views... choices... and life... Also respecting each others values in a loving manner... And being aware of each persons values or belief systems... As far as interaction goes would depend on each persons personal preferances... And if you share common activities such as shopping... dining out... hobbies... work what ever it might be... you would share all with your family but minumally I would say frequent contact and communication.... this is my idea of a healthy family:))

It is what it is:)

I do not think you can really define what is normal and what is not normal when it comes to family.  Every family is different and interact differently depending on personalities.  In my opinion, stability is key to any family life.

LMarie, That sounds nice but sometimes when someone says they are sorry the apology is not always taken. For example: One brother of mine has had a resentment towards me for greater than 10 years. During that time I was in AA and did my step work, one of them trying to make ammends whenever possible. With him it was not possible and I had to accept that and move on. Now, enter his wife who created such a scene with me on thanksgiving that you would have thought we were a bunch of drunks when in fact there was not a drop of booze involved whatsoever. So, next day she apologizes and I just as soon would have her and my brother leave me alone.

Hi Gem, I don't know what normal is either. Communication, acceptance of each other...oh my God, my family should be on one of those reality shows and we would all be rich. It must be the most bizarre mix of characters put together. God help me because my mother tries to make us all get along. Surprised

There is no such thing as normal and definitely not in families.  Whenever you take several people with different personalities and put them together for long periods of time, there is going to be chaos.  What I have found throughout my life, is that the families that seemed the most "normal" to the rest of the world were the most screwed up behind closed doors.  I think that what most of us might characterize as a normal family, like something out of Norman Rockwell painting, is the abnormal today and not the normal.
