Discuss Bonestructure's answer to: Was I falsely diagnosed?

I'm a 15 year old girl, and I was diagnosed with ADHD a few months ago. I've been experiencing pretty severe mood swings mostly recently, but I've also always been moody. My grandfather has bipolar ...

It's likely that your diagnosis was correct. However, I have a problem in this area. In recent years, doctors have been diagnosing ADHD far too easily in children, and prescribing medications for them. If your child is a behavior problem, ADHD. Doesn't pay attention in class, ADHD. In other words, if they behave as normal children, but their parents can't handle it, ADHD.

With the genetic link, there is a good chance you either have, or will develop, bipolar disorder. Why doesn't your mom have it? Because these little genetic surprise packages tend to skip a generation. I would suggest that you would be well advised, as is your right, to seek a second opinion.

If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, then that makes me a burning truck filled with TNT hurtling through a rocket fuel depot.
