Discuss Book's answer to: Which Fairy Tale is the Scariest?

Which fairy tale do YOU find to be the scariest? Which would you NEVER read to your kids?

Most people are accustomed to Disney's version of fairy tales, which have had most of the death, dismemberment and other unpleasantries removed.

I would never read Hansel & Gretel to my kids.  Two children, abandoned by a parent end up cramming a live person into an oven.  Sweet dreams!

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

"Where the sidewalk ends" is one of the grandkids' favorites.  It is a Shel Silversteen book, and like the rest of his work, I find it well worth reading.

Book, it does seem a little like Auschwitz, doesn't it?  I suppose I want a little bit of Goosebumps now and then but these are supposed to be fiction.

Another I didn't like was "Alice through the looking glass."  Too much talk of drugs.

I agree.   The story of Hansel, and Gretel, was disturbing, but then again...so were a lot of fairy tales. Sleeping Beauty, and even Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. lol I raised my son on the Berenstain Books, or the Mercer Meyer books, etc. Where they teach more about morals, and values, rather than mythical nightmares, that today's child, cannot relate to. lol But I love those stories, just the same :)
