ESL Primary School Teachers Resources?, China

Hello fellow teachers,

My name is Tony Voss. I'm a foreign English teacher in Dongguan, China. I'm currently teaching 165 Chinese English majors at a major university. Almost all of my students will become primary school English teachers at the end of this term, and all of this month they will be engaged in student teaching in various primary schools in the area.

I've equipped them to the best of my ability, sharing all of my experiences in teaching primary school English in 5 years in America and 2 years in China. I gave them several lessons on classroom management, lesson design, and dealing with misbehavior as well as basic ESL acquisition methods and I shared my favorite ESL web-sites, including ePALS.

Now I'm hoping that some you can can ADD some tips and "tricks of the trade" to my instruction. Could you please share with us some of your favorite lessons, games, songs, puzzles, chants, and books

especially for older primary school students.

A favorite lesson I taught (for 3rd graders) ages 8-9, was about the water cycle. I am not sure where I got the song from, but it works really well! It is to the tune of "Oh, My Darling." There is movement with the song. I hope this description is good enough to follow:

Condensation (push out with your hands), Evaporation (move your hands up towards the sky), Precipitation on my head (make it look like your hand is showering like a spout over their head), Accumulation (move hands infront of them in a swishing movement like the water in a river), The water cycle (move their hands in a circle), goes around again (turn around in a circle).

hi i think they have to be engaged in the teaching procedure by preparing lessons by themselves, explaining lessons,watch real lesson in a real class,as to get some experience..dont forget about the materials in these grades and its benefits ..let them try to solve some problems u asked about ....let them know some about child development in this age.. about lessons or songs they can find it by them selves ,the best is to know how to deal with children and how to find attractive ways to overcome their subject....
