Mice breed faster.
Not only do they breed faster, they have larger litters. Both hawks and foxes average 1 to 4 babies. Mice can have up to a dozen, which leads to mice being able to have as many as 144 babies a year. Foxes have one litter a year. Hawks can lay eggs twice a year, but usually only do it once.
