Why is there no law stating that all political commercial must state the truth on receive a huge fine for slander? We are electing or employing a person to lead our country so like all companies would firer or not hire because of these lies. Also is there a war going on in the USA? Are we still in the civil war but instead of North & South it's Liberal and Conservatism GET ALONG we are all Americans. Remember our Founding Fathers was Liberals if they want they could had been Conservatism and just let this land still be in English rule.We need Liberals to shake the government up because we do not wish to go like some Great Nations that had stagnation had done. Also I am a Liberal but also 100% Disable VET and do believe in the USA and not a Terrorist.  Another question: Why had not Gov. Palin environment policy? I was going to vote for McCain and Palin until I had check Ms Palin policies on wildlife. Really! Go to Alaska.gov/wildlife laws and you will fine that she had restate hunting Wolf by air and the "very brave" Hunter brings back the forearm of the wolf to get a money reward. To me that now she shows the disregard she has for our environment.

To answer your main question aout no law prohibiting alleged slander in political ads, there is one. It's the same one that ordinary citizens can (and do) use when they feel they have been slandered by some public statement by another individual. Problem is, what constitutes slander is a very subjective determination. But anyone can have their day in court by suing and having a jury decide, That said, court rulings have well established that public figures by their very position have to expect that things will be said about them that may not be wholly true, and there is a much more stringent test for them as to what constitutes slander.

With respect to your stated horror at the law in Alaska for hunting wolves, you should be aware that the wolf populations in many areas of the state have increased to the point where they are a substantial threat to other wildlife, namely moose and caribu. They therefore have been declared predators and bounty hunting is permitted in order to bring the population under control. If you would do a just little research you'd find that Alaska (and Gov. Palin) are not unique in this respect, and a similar situation exists in a number of other states which permit bounty hunting of wolves and/or coyotes.

Rac, very well said.

Free as a bird, it's the next best thing to be. Free as a bird.

1. There is no such law because the politicians write the laws.

2. If you would not vote for Sarah Palin becasuse of her position on wildlife population control, you need to learn basic information about wildlife management before you make uninformed comments like you include in your question.
