See this web site from the EPA. It provides details regarding the recycling of cell phones.
You can actually drop off your old cell phones to the fire department or local police station. They recycle the phones and give them to needy women and their children who have left an abusive partner. You can also try the local county store as they accept donations too.
You can recycle your phone by doing the following: 1. Donate it to other people, if it is still working. 2. Go to your mobile manufacturer they take back old mobiles for recycling. Some of the manufacturer gives cash in exchange with your old phone. 3. Go to companies, Recycling Center, that has recycling schemes.

Even though this question is a year old... it never hurts to hear gentle reminders that when we are finished with something we can donate to help others.
Support our troops!

And...cell phones for battered women, the elderly, and senior citizens. Also a very good cause.
