Purple Heart the "best and most effective" type of solar power system for the home is to use one to heat your pool water with swimming pool solar panels. I don't know if you have a pool or not but this is the most cost effective simply because your average homeowner spends so much to heat their pool each year that installing a few simple solar collectors to heat your water is easy, relatively in expensive and extremely effective especially during the winter. Don't forget to invest in a pool cover though! Hope that helps. Let me know if you don't have a pool and I can make another suggestion.
