In the lesson book of Everyday Mathematics Student Math Journal Volume 1 for grade 5, I have a question about lesson 2-8 on problem 2 a. What is a data sheet and how do I use 12 numbers for landmarks ...
I'm not sure what you are asking relative to a DATA SHEET. However, with the numbers given, I can tell you what each category represents.
The maximum number 18, is just the highest valued number in the series.
The range, 13 suggests that the entire spread has a value of 13.
You can deduce from this that the least number is 5, 5+13 =18
The mode, 7, is the number that repeats itself the highest number of times.
The median, 12, is that value which lies half way between the higher group and the lower group of numbers. Thus, half the numbers are greater than 12 and half the numbers are less than 12.
The mean, which you didn't refer to, is just saying what the average of all the numbers is the sum of all the numbers divided by the total amount of numbers in the series.
I think that you could build several kinds of DATA SHEETS from these facts, however, since I don't have the text, I can't help you further.
