Possibly the most serious ecological problem is the release of hazardous substances from the AVX Corporation's Myrtle Beach plant. - . The results of DHEC's investigation indicate that soil and groundwater is contaminated at the AVX facility, and that groundwater has migrated to nearby properties. There is concern about the distribution of trichloroethylene in the groundwater.
