Why does my e-mail now automatically minimize upon opening instead of just opening up on the screen like it has for the past 20 years?

If this is like what happend to my Mom I'm assuming your email opens up in a smaller window. If that's the case put the cursor over one of the corners and press and hold the left mouse button. Drag until the window opens all the way. This should fix it for you.
