The motor and heating elements are independent.

Keep close to Nature's heart... climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.* Victims of circumstance owe it to fate. Victims of choice owe it to themselves.*One of the widest gaps in human experience is the gap between what we say we want to be and our willingness to discipline ourselves to get there.

It sounds like your timer or heat selector switch is out. They control the fan, drum motor, and heating elements. There will be a fusible link between your power line and the switches, so that is probably what to test first. It should read 0 ohms in isolated test. If it reads infinite, it has blown. If you are smart, you will replace it with a 30-amp breaker with the trip set on the control panel of the dryer.

What happened to that $15.7 trillion dollars of OUR tax money, Obama?

I could tell you to jumper out your controls but by your question I'm afraid you might get hurt! But it definitely has something to do with an interlock or a failed rotary control switch. There should be a wiring diagram on the back panel of your dryer. If you feel as though you can interpret & follow the wiring; using a voltmeter on its lowest resistance setting you should be able to find your "open" in the circuit! By all means call an electrician if you don't feel confident enough to perform this type of troubleshooting! Good luck!

When one component on a dryer has gone bad, the rest aren't far behind it.  You might as well get a new washer and dryer.  They are built to last about the same amount of time.  Talk about planned obsolesence.

Do not meddle in the dealings of dragons, for you are tasty with barbecue sauce.

It is a fuse and or thermostat or heating element. Unplug the power cord. Take the back odd and check the fuse, thermostats (3 of them)  and heating element with a ome meter. If they are good the needle will move to the right, if they are bad the needle won't move. Replace what is bad.

ALL the others will stop working if the fuse or 1 thermostat goes bad.

The damp quilt was probably too heavy for the dryer or it was not distributed evenly in the drum and probably blew an internal protective fuse. Hope that helps.
