Years ago, when a friend got online, there was a sound of an opening door. When the friend left, the door closed.  Recently that sound started up on my MAC, for no reason--it hasn't been there for years.  How can I get the door sound to stop creeking open and slamming shut?

Doors creaking open and slamming shut are AOL buddy sounds.  You can turn them off in AOL using Settings, Sounds, IM.

If you aren't using AOL, maybe the sounds are from AIM?
