My airedale terrier has dry spots that scab. He licks them until they bleed. I don't want to keep giving him corizone shots. What can I do?

Instructions
Things You'll Need:

  • Oatmeal flakes Olive oil Humidifier Vacuum Dish of soapy water Vinegar Brewer's yeast Garlic

  1. Step 1
Give your dog a short bath or oatmeal soak. Always use cool water. Oatmeal is soothing and relieves dry, irritated skin. Because dogs need the oils their skin produces naturally, don't wash your dog more than once a month.

  2. Step 2
Mix a teaspoon of olive oil or other vegetable oil into each meal, especially with dry food. You should see improvement within two weeks. The oil works as a moisturizer for dogs' skin.

  3. Step 3
Place a humidifier near your dog's sleeping quarters. This will moisturize his skin as it does yours. Frequent and thorough vacuuming or steam cleaning also decreases itching.

  4.

  5.

  6. Step 6
Buy a better-quality dog food. Lesser-quality dry food often doesn't have enough meat to add luster to a dog's coat. Dogs can develop allergies to fillers like wheat and other grain substitutes used in place of meat.

  7. I skipped steps 4 and 5 since they dealt with fleas.  Hope this helps
