Why do dogs sometimes eat grass?

Cats and dogs eat grass when they have an upset stomac.Especially cats eat grass to get rid of the hairballs .When they clean themselves a lot of hair goes down.

My dog is eating grass when I let him out and I dont know if his stomach is upset or not.
