You can train your dog to go on a pad inside the house, if you want.  Almost everyone who has a dog though, takes him for walks and picks up his poop.... it's really just one of the responsibilities that comes with having a dog.  You can retrain him, but it will take time.

Far away in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead. Louisa May Alcott

Besides a pad you could look for dog trails in your area and if it's remote enough perhaps not cleaning up after your pup is ok.

You can also train your dog to go on a pad outdoors.  We have washable pads that we use inside the house, but you could just as easily use them outdoors and just wash them.  Once their smell gets on them, they usually continue to go there, but now that your dogs smell is all over the hard, it will be more difficult to train them to go in one place.

I just saw this on the internet.  Not sure if it would help you or not.
