It could be a couple different things. Usually,it's just because his butt itches.BUTT(ha ha!pun intended!),it could also mean he,or she has a case of worms. Check your dog's droppings,you can normally see them crawling around in it.If you do see them,you can goto your local pet store and buy some de-wormer for your dog.Left unchecked,worms can really mess with your dog.You can also just take him to your vet,and they can give him the right meds.Good luck!

Worms is a safe bet, and treatment is really easy (usually you give the dog a pill, repeat treatment after a few days, and you're done for the next 6 months). Worms should be treated on a regular basis, and they are really contagious, so if you have other animals, I'd check them too.

Dogs sometimes have a congestion near their anus which has to be cleaned, and which itches and sometimes is even painful. Go to the vet and ask her to take a look. They clean it on the spot, it's not pleasant and the dog hates it, but it takes less than 10 seconds, and they feel loads better after.

yes, it could be just an itch. Or it could be worms. It is probably that the anal glands need to be emptied. All dogs have anal glands that give off some secretions. This is why dogs sniff each others' behinds to say hello. They can tell alot by the smell of the dog. However, many dogs, especially small dogs, can get to a point where the anal glands get too full and they need to be squeezed out. This is why the dog rubs her behind on the flooor, it is uncomfortable for her.

You should call your vet or local grooming salon. Either place should do it. It costs very little money. You just go in and drop your dog off and about 10 minutes later you have a much happier and more comfortable dog back in your arms.

Small dogs get this problem much more often than large dogs. Some small dogs need their glands expelled about once a month. Some large dogs need it only once a year or less. It really depends on the individual dog. If your dog is often scooting her butt across the floor, bring her to the groomer or vet right away! You (and your dog) will be really glad you did!
