Answers

A document subtitle is the "title" one gives to a specific part of a document. It can be used to separate parts of a document, and/or introduce a new discussion on the topic.

Here's an example:

http://books.google.com/books?id=XPMt03ckruUC&printsec=frontcover&dq=0520235339&hl=en&ei=9XPXTMuRCYzAsAOvhKWNCw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CCsQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q&f=falseon

On page 5, lower portion of the page, the author divides the introduction by putting a subtitle.
