my garage door binds when I go to open it. It's a two car garage and it acts like the door is too long for the opener. The chain drive opener is 11/2 horsepower. How can I get this adjusted?
oil the hinges, the chain with any type of oil, even cooking will do.
Sometimes on the wide aluminum doors (their strength is in the 90 degree bent top and bottom of the individual panels) the weight of the door or force from the opener will break the panel on the top fold or the bottom and this will cause it to loose the rigidity of the door so it will sag under its own weight. I have used re-enforcements of these areas but the aluminum is too soft and they don't last too long. What is needed is to replace the broken panel. If you can find the part and have help you can do it but I have found it's hard to find someone who will sell you the part. Of course the repairers and installers are just that and not distributors, they make their living doing the work. In this case they are worth their fee. Just check around and get the best bid.
