I believe diabetics can sometimes smell as if they have been drinking when they have not. Something to do with their blood sugar levels, I think.

Diabetics don't smell of alcohol, but if the blood sugar level is too low, they act very much as if they're drunk. It's called diabetic ketoacidosis.

There indeed is an illness that causes you to smell like alcohol. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of it. Basically, something goes wrong with the body and carbohydrates and sugars are converted to alcohol in the body. It is an EXTREMELY serious illness. If not treated very quickly, it is fatal. Fortunately, it's also extremely rare.

If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, then that makes me a burning truck filled with TNT hurtling through a rocket fuel depot.
