Sole custody means just what it says. You have sole custody. And, surprise of surprises, joint custody means exactly what it says too. It means you share custody.

You seriously didn't know the difference between sole and joint? Really? Seriously? Wow!!

Sole custody means that only one parent retains custodial rights to the child. The 'custodial' parent has the right to make decisions for the child regarding education, medical treatment, or religious and moral training. Sole custody can be granted with or without the other parent receiving visitation rights. Should the non-custodial parent be granted visitation, either the parents can work together to create child visitation guidelines or they can be handed down from the court.

Joint custody on the other hand, is when parents share custody of the child(ren). This can mean that the child stays with one parent on the weekends and the other during the week, splitting their time exactly 50/50, or any other combination imaginable.
