thinking of buying a vw golf 1.9 diesel the salesman told me u get 55p to the gallon. i was also interested in 1.4 golf petrol and told this runs at 44p to th gallon, is this fact?
We only have data on the U.S GTI trims, but it seems 44 mpg for petrol is pretty optimistic. These trims are all ~20/~30 city/hwy: http://www.automall.com/trims/make/Volkswagen/model/2009+GTI/zipcode/95762/
You should know better than to take seriously anything a new (or used) car sales person tell you about the vehicle. Look at the window sticker for the projected mileage posted there and reduce that by about 15% to 20%. This will give a ballpark idea of the best mileage you can expect. Do your homework online before you start looking.
